To have the skin mole removal you can select several different procedures. Usually the surgeon inspects the mole and offers suggestions about the best method to use. Frequently the surgeon requests that you have a skin specialist check the mole first to make sure it’s not cancerous. Most moles aren’t but it’s always a good precaution.

The first method is a surgical incision where they cut the mole out of the skin. They will go outside the mole border and make sure they cut out all connective tissue so that the mole cannot regrow. Then you will receive stitches and depending on how deep the mole cut is the stitches will be on the outside of the skin or the inside.

The 2nd type of skin mole removal has the surgeon level off the mole by scraping it with a scalpel. This procedure will then be cauterized so that the bleeding will stop and then you won’t need any stitches. This method planes the mole to be level with the skin again.

The next method is only done if the mole is shallowly on the surface. It will be done with a laser. A laser will not leave scars but if the mole is deeper in the skin it may regrow. The laser cannot penetrate deep into the skin tissue.

All the methods listed above can be quite painful. If you talk to your physician first they can prescribe pain medication for the skin mole procedure and for after the removal. Talk to your doctor about the best pain medications.

A skin mole can have a scab for 1 ” 2 weeks. Afterwards, the area will be red but you shouldn’t be able to tell there was a mole there previously. If there are any scars from the removal process talk to your doctor and he can do procedures to remove those too.

Always prepare to pay for the procedure out of your own pocket. Most insurance companies believe that mole removal is a cosmetic surgery and won’t cover the expense. Request an estimate of the cost ahead of time, including the potential of scar removal.

Lately, even Hollywood A-listers are moving away from cosmetic surgery and instead opting for cosmetic dermatology as a less invasive alternative for skin rejuvenation. Combining various treatments, known as “Comprehensive Therapy” or “Polytherapy” can give people their desired look for less money, pain, planning and with little or no downtime.

While the list of options isnt as long as the menu at your local juice bar, it does take a skille dermatologist to understand how to assemble the right combination of treatments for a patients’ condition and desired result.

When it comes to skin rejuvenation, the stretched look is out. Facelifts may not even get rid of the folds that a patient seeks to correct, plus, no one wants the downtime and pain that comes with plastic surgery, not to mention the possibility of a poor outcome that would be permanent.

Incredible advancements in laser and treatment options means that dermatologists can now combine methods to achieve the look patients are after with much greater ease. Polytherapy produces much longer lasting effects, so trips to the doctors office for maintenance are required less often. Best of all, all of these combined procedures have very few associated risks, so the desicion to “go ahead” is much easier to make.

For example, the skin can be tightened and noticeably rejuvenated without pulling or cutting by using Genesis Plus, a combination of IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) and Nd:YAG laser. The IPL treats the surface of the skin by correcting tone and evening pigmentation, while the YAG stimulates collagen for new growth. These two combined treatments help greatly to eliminate wrinkles and scars while making the skin tighter overall. A little Restylane for fine lines and around the eyes, a bit of Botox, and patients look young, and most importantly, natural.

Advances in Polytherapy have presented endless possibilities to the cosmetic dermnatologist. One of the most exciting new rejuvenation techniques if PDT (photodynamic therapy). PDT achieves similar results to laser resurfacing but without the associated risks. PDT is done by first applying a light-sensitizing substance to the skin, then passing a laser or light source over the area to be treated.

Comprehensive therapy not only produces superior results, but the effects last much longer. For example, using Botox or a similar filler substance on it own will produce results that last about three months. However, combining Botox treatment with Restylane, in an area like the frown lines can sustain the look for over six months.

Its rare that one type of treatment will produce the desired effect on its own. Thats why theres a trend toward polytherapy. However, only an experienced physician understands how to combine treatments to get the best results, and the importance of keeping abreast and offering the latest technology available.
