A dog is a man’s best friend and I am sure all dog owners will agree wholeheartedly with me and the welcome wag of its tail and the friendly lick can make you smile even after a hard bothersome day at work.

Dogs are invariably there when you want them, ready to go out for a walk if you are or just keeping you company when you would opt for a night in. They will never complain that you haven’t the energy for that walk you promised them the day before, or the bath they so urgently need.

Other than love, there are few ways we can really show our appreciation for the love and companionship a dog provides except by keeping them in first class health which can be done with a dog insurance plan.

Pet insurance providers know how essential pets are to people and can arrange a big number of health plans that can cover nearly every type of position. Dogs of all breeds and ages can benefit and avail the advantages of such dog insurance policies as it is not only simple on the pocket of the owners but also helps to provide the best care for the dogs as such medical attention becomes easily affordable with the insurance.

Technology can be it’s own downfall often and as medical treatment for pets improves, so does the price and many treatments that are available now, which weren’t a few years ago, are very expensive.

Treatments like a hip replacement or kidney transplant which were earlier unthinkable in case of animals are now being provided for animals. Some dog conditions are genetic like heart enlargement, epilepsy and even hip dysplasia.

Many diseases that dogs are prone to suffer from do not happen until they reach middle age and of course by then, the dog is a member of a family and loved by everyone. This type of dog insurance plan does mean that providing health care for them does not become a matter of financial worry, frustration or even stress which is something some dog owners feel when it comes to paying out thousands of dollars for medical treatment.

Many owners underestimate just how much time a dog needs when it comes to ensuring their continued good health and while they are great companions they are prone to a number of parasites; these like to make their home on a dog.

All of this and more should be part of the regular check a dog has when they visits the vet and is incorporated into most policies. If such care is taken it will guarantee a happy and loving association between the dog and his owner.

This should mean that your dogs health requirements are continued, ensuring they have a long fulfilling life as part of the immediate family. Finding the correct plan that will suit everything you need could be as simple as asking a friend who has dog insurance to the veterinarian who will know all the companies and might be able to suggest a good one to approach.

Boston Terrier background – Boston Terriers originate from the United States of America. It is noted that the first Boston terrier was called Hooper’s Judge. He was a cross between English Bulldog and White English Terrier bred somewhere in the 1860′s. Boston’s where originally bred for fighting purposes.

How to spot a Boston Terrier- Boston’s are small dogs with muscular bodies. Their chests are broad and necks slightly bent. Their facial features are prominent especially the eyes and nose. The eyes are big, dark and lively. The nose rather boxy in shape. They have typical terrier ears- small and sharp. Pelt colors range from black, brown and brindle with combination of white. Minimum cutting, shaving and general grooming is required. These dogs are the ultimate no mess or fuss pet.

Doggy dimensions – Standing tall at rather impressive 38 to 43 cm for a small dog and weighing in at between 5-11 Kilograms, these dogs are well built when comparing their height to weight. However there are International show weight standards for Boston’s of no less than 5 Kilograms or more than 12.5 Kilograms to fall within a perfect range. It is very important that the dogs’ frame be considered when the weight is calculated.

Perfect Personality- These dogs have perfect personalities being both strong and loving. However it is important to keep in mind that animals have different personalities just as humans do, ranging form charming to plain rude. Boston’s tend to be a little neurotic and this can lead to over activeness and non-stop yapping. A great advantage to the breed is the ease of training due to the dogs’ super intelligence, voice tone sensitivity and eagerness to learn new things. Boston terriers are wonderful house dogs once trained. The method of training employed is the most important facet to determine ultimate success and duration of training process. Strict or harsh training methods should be avoided entirely as it will just pressurize and increase nerves of the already hyperactive dog.

Health problems- Due to inbreeding and poor breeding practice Boston’s generally have more health problems than other dogs especially in the form of mental retardation. Some chronic problems include snoring, grunting, drooling and breathing difficulties. Eye problems are common due to the prominent positioning of the eyes. Natural births are very rare due to the narrow shape of the pelvis and large head-size of the puppies.

Healthy pet- Balance is key to keeping your doggy happy and health. Work out a balanced exercise and dietary program to eliminate over-activity and illness. Long walks, running and playing is a must to the fitness regime. Severe gases and obesity can be cause be fatty and high fiber diets.

Living conditions- Boston’s adapt to any size home and play area from apartments to farms. As long as there is a park or playground close by for regular exercise the dog will be satisfied.

Age Expectancy- The dog’s age expectancy is dependent upon his or her diet and level of activity. Your little yank companion can reach age 15 years and older.

Today, it’s all the rage to take your petite pooch with you wherever you go so it’s no wonder that there are many different styles of small dog travel bags in the market. Some of them can be quite fashionable while others are more functional. When shopping for travel bags for your pooch, keep safety, comfort and good looks in mind.

One of the questions you need to ask yourself when looking for a travel bag is: what will you be using it for? Do you simply want a fashionable tote to carry your dog to the park? Or do you need something that you and your dog can do some serious traveling with? All these things need to be considered when choosing a travel bag for your dog.

Many small dog travel bags are made with fashion in mind and they often look like fashionable purses and come in vivid colors. These bags are great for the fashion-minded pet owner and a lot of them are pretty good for your pet too.

When choosing a bag, look at the features of the bag itself. Inspect the entry area to make sure that it will be easy for you to get your dog in and out. Another thing to look for is a little opening or flap so you can slip your hand in to pet the dog.

From your dog’s point of view, there are certain amenities in a travel bag that are a must. You’ll want to have some mesh “windows” for ventilation as well as for a place for your pet to peek out of. You’ll also want a comfy dog bed but be sure it’s one that can be detached for washing. A safety hook for attaching your dog’s leash is a nice feature as are some extra pockets to carry a few treats around in.

If you’ll be going on vacation by plane, get a small dog bag that is airline approved. You can get some great soft sided bags that can be placed right under your seat on the plane so you don’t have to worry about your pet. When shopping for these bags, make sure that they have a lockable zipper for safety, a padded bottom for comfort and mesh windows for ventilation.

Today, there are many styles of small dog travel bags to choose from at different prices. No matter where you take your dog – whether on a trip to the vet or a flight to Paris – there’s no reason that it can’t be done in comfort, safety and style.

Are you losing your pets to accidents? Do they wander and never return? Show them that you care. Keep your pets safe from harm with the petsafe wireless fences.

When the time comes to welcome a cat into the family, the question of whether to purchase a cat from a breeder or pet store or to instead adopt a cat from another family or an animal shelter can come up.

by Virginia Sutherland

When the time comes to welcome a cat into the family, the question of whether to purchase a cat from a breeder or pet store or to instead adopt a cat from another family or an animal shelter can come up.

If your quest is to get a cat that you can show, a pedigree may be the best option, however, most organizations have a “household cat” category where you can show off your precious one.

There are different advantages to getting your cat from either a shelter or a breeder. Breeders will give you a guarantee and the kitten will come with a wellness check by a veterinarian. You may be restricted in showing, and most certainly breeding. Getting a cat from the shelter assures that cats has been screened for some diseases and you will also most likely get a history about the cat.

Some people are very set on a particular breed. Or a particular personality trait. One way to get what they want is to buy a cat from a breeder, however, most cat breeds are available for adoption, and getting hte personality you want may be easier with an adult cat than with a kitten.

Choosing to adopt a cat means that your options are wide open. An added advantage is also that cats waiting for a home will already have lived in one and information about their behavior will most likely be available.

Some cats at shelters come with a full history, such as if they deal well with young children orwith other pets. There is also a great feeling that can come with adopting a cat since some cats that are never adopted wind up euthanized by the shelter. There simply isn’t always enough room for all the cats in the shelter, so sometimes there is no other choice. By adopting a cat, you’re saving the cat’s life.

Not all adopted cats come from shelters. Some people have to give their cats away for whatever reason – allergies develop, moving to another city, financial problems – so if you peruse the pet ads within a local newspaper you’ll probably find an impressive selection of cats looking for new homes.

The advantage of adotping a cat from the shelter is that the cat will have had it’s health evaluated. Adopting a cat from a family mean you have no idea if there are underlying health problems.

Some struggle with the decision of whether to rescue a cat at the shelter, or to purchase one from a breeder. Rest assured that once you do decide to get a cat, one will find you. Cats are just like that. You can start your search, investigating your options, and before you know it “your” cat will appear.

From the pages of glossy magazines to the arms of true-blooded fashionistas, from lucrative advertisements to million dollar films; these and more are the spectacular little spots for the fashionable and socialite of a dog, Chihuahua. Whether in Hollywood, mansions, or trendy little apartments, this dog has dominated the social scene. If you have this breed then you’re in!

Needless it may be to introduce a Chihuahua but this dog is an ever present tiny creature that possesses among its many titles the term “purse dog”; clearly, this term must be directed toward its portable size and fashion symbolism. A Chihuahua, innately, has a big, round, and sparkly eyes, a small fragile body, and two classifications of coats, the long coat and the smooth coat. Outwardly, this dog is never without an expensive or designer’s bling bling and clothing; and these favors are just additional evidence to the pampering and wealth that this breed enjoys.

Chihuahuas come in long coated and smooth coated varieties; being, the long coated dogs have soft, longer, and a bit curly or flat hair and the smooth coated dogs have a smooth, soft, and fitted coat all over its body. They come in different hues, too, such as black and brown, and they could be in different styles such as solid, splashed, and markings. Having a tiny body and a lesser amount of fur, the Chihuahua is gloriously easy to groom and maintain, the hardest probably is that of the long coated ones which needs fur brushing once in a while.

The name Chihuahua came from Chihuahua, Mexico- a region of Mexico where this breed was said to have been first sighted. Tracing back its origin, it is unclear really but conclusions have it as, the breed coming from the Fennec Fox, a small dog that has big eyes and big ears as well, just like the present day Chihuahuas, only bigger in body size. However, what’s clear is the fact that even during the reign of the Aztecs, the Chihuahuas have been the favored pets of the royalties and of the upper class people of this kingdom and had been used in religious rituals.

There are many diminutive breeds in the world as we know of today but the Chihuahua owns the recognition as the smallest breed there is. In the US, it is cited as the oldest breed in the country. More over, this breed does not only own the oldest and smallest titles, it is also endowed to have the longest life span for all sizes of dogs; the Chihuahua, we can therefore say, definitely lives up to the saying “small but terrible”.

Each dog of this breed has its own unique and true to itself personality and that is why, no real or only a few generalizations can be made for this breed. The Chihuahua, although small in size, is fierce and deeply protective, devoted and loyal to its master. At the sight of strangers and other small sized animals, they fiercely bark and protect profusely; this makes the Chihuahua an awesome watchdog and trendy companion in one.

The smallest breed, which stands 6 to 9 inches in height, is also very capable of possessing a hyper energy, prim manners, a fearless disposition, and human-like expressions. They might not be the brightest of all the dog breeds, too, but they are in their own way intelligent and devoted. Training them requires patience, unconditional love, firmness, and positive encouragements so they can learn and be trained properly.

A Chihuahua is also conducive for city dwelling for it strives in small spaces; it performs indoor activities such as playing with toys and gentle frolics with the master. If your neighborhood has a limited space for daily walks, this dog will survive just fine; however, for every breed of dog, it is always best if they can get a dose of strolls once in a while. The Chihuahua is clearly suited for a classy and fabulous living and with its handy size and homebody demeanor; you can unarguably bring them in an urban type of lifestyle.

Turtles are fascinating pets to own, but many people get them not knowing how to look after them. Their fundamental needs are space, the right amount of light and shade as well as moisture to survive, so you ought to be familiar with their basic needs before you acquire one. The open-air is the best place for holding a turtle since in winter the would go to sleep and remain inactive, but once kept indoors, they are unable to do this, which results in liver ailments. Their normal cycle should not be messed with so keeping a pen open-air means you can create a entirely normal habitat for them.

During their hide and sleep period, some individuals keep their pet indoor turtles in the icebox. This action is not wise as there could be a power outage and the temperature inside the icebox could rise, this would come in the way of their regular hibernation. This can be fatal for them so if you plan on keeping your pets inside, don’t let them hibernate. In case you are very particular about holding the turtle indoors, make sure that you build a tank with 40 gallon capability where there are sufficient areas for land and water.

The plan of the aquarium should be such that two-thirds of its capability should be water and the balance land, where they can rest in the heat of the lamp. The most ideal temperature of the aquarium are approximately 80 degrees and 70 degrees during daylight and nighttime respectively. These animals are cold blooded so they take a long time to adjust to temperature alterations. This is why never attempt to bring it out of the tank for playing as the temperature drop or rise adversely impacts on their immune system.

This is why never attempt to bring it out of the tank for playing as the temperature drop or rise adversely impacts on their immune system. It is important that you wash and wash your hands well after handling turtles as some of them carry salmonella and it is very essential to keep the environment where they live clean too. You might have to think about a water purification system to clean the water and keep it clean. You should not use water from the faucet for the tank, because it contains chlorine and fluoride which can really mess up the ph balance.

There are many commercial diets available for turtles but dietary demands differ depending on the species, still, you should not feed your pet more than 2 to 3 times a week. Make sure that the water is kept free from wood chips or tree barks as these contaminants can create problems for the turtle, and to top it, these also act as pollutants giving way to the growth of fungus and molds. It is a fact that turtles need 12 hours of sunshine to remain healthy, so in case you are thinking of holding the creature indoors, make sure that you have a UV lamp for the tank, which offers the necessary vitamin D3.

This is why you see these creatures basking in the sunlight for hours, so when inside keep the tank at a place where there is not much temperature variation and some shady area for them to unwind. Although available at most pet stores, you could also make them at home with wood and stones but if you keep aquatic plants in the tank, make sure that they are not harmful to the creatures. The behavioral pattern of a turtle is very absorbing and then can provide good entertainment for the whole family.

If you have a pet subsequently you will be in charge for taking care of him moreover one of the most crucial aspects of health & care is dog grooming. All grooming wants quality dog grooming tools for instance, combs, brushes and clippers that can be found at all pet supplies stores.

If you take your pet to a professional dog grooming service center then it can sometimes be expensive. It is not something that cannot be done at home i.e., it is possible only if you have the time and the equipment. The first and the foremost thing is that you need to be extremely patient with your dog during the dog grooming session and don’t forget to reward him once it is over so that you don’t face any problems the next time around.

The second important thing is buying the right pet supplies to enable grooming at home. The different types of pet supplies that you will need for grooming includes: – Bathing accessories: This will mostly include hair dryers, shampoo, conditioner and towels. Clippers: This will consist of pet grooming tools like turbo clippers, clipper kits, combs, trimmers etc. Others: This can include an array of pet grooming tools like nail grinders, Furminator de-shedding tools, Styptic powder, Matbreaker dematting tool, dematting combs, dematting rake, flea comb, area slicker brushes, undercoat rake, etc. Dental toothpaste: this is an often-overlooked necessity when buying pet supplies. Dental problems in cats and dogs are one of the most expensive veterinarian costs during a pet’s life.

Dog grooming is important for all pets but more for dogs with a lot of hair. Dogs like German Shepherds have double coat and experience a lot of hair fall and hence should be groomed regularly. Some of the important parts of the body that need to be cleaned and groomed include the skin and ears and it is a must to clip the nails for dogs.

Cleaning the ears of dogs is an important part of dog grooming as they get a lot of infections through their ears. Dogs with droopy ears are extremely vulnerable to different kinds of ear problems and infections caused by ear mites, waxy ears, and fungus. You must check the ears of your dog once every week and clean them as well. Another essential part of dog grooming is clipping nails by using a nail trimmer like Little Pals Nail Trimmer and this is frequently done for dogs, as their nails can grow abnormally large. Even though they will in no way hurt you with their nails but are quite capable of scratching you while playing. You must clip nails once every 3 weeks.

The one thing that nearly all pets hate and dogs all the more is bathing. Except for the Retrievers more or less all dogs hate taking a bath. However bathing is as well a significant part of dog grooming. Before you give your pet a nice bath, make sure that you have the essential pet supplies like shampoo, conditioner and the like.
